In a Year of Comic Book Movies, How Does Thor Stack Up?
The perfect word to describe the new Thor movie would actually be testosterone. The movie actually manages to extract from its audience a very masculine attachment to the awesome powers of Thor and his kick ass attitude. Thor emerges as a new name distinct from the likes of Superman, Spiderman and other earlier superheroes. The angry and self-centered alien Thor is very much different and fresh in comparison to his counterpart classic superheroes who were very kind to the humans especially to the ladies.It must be noted though that Thors tendency to be too impulsive is only because of his being not a fan of long-term planning coupled with courage and bravery to face pressing situations. This particular trait of Thor however, is one of the reasons of its success. Thors adventure starts with his home planet a planet of the guardians of peace of the Universe. He acquired all his skills and powers in this planet. In fact, Thor is very popular in this planet as he is the heir to the throne. Thor commands the element of lightning through his hammer called Mjollnir which was given to him by his father, the King. However, due to Thors own impulsiveness, his father doubted his qualifications as king to their home planet. His father was left without another alternative than to force Thor to learn the necessary values of a good king; Thor was exiled to Earth. While on Earth, he was stripped off his power leaving him as mortal and helpless as a mere human being. Luckily for Thor, learning the values his father wanted him to learn was easier with the help of his new friends on Earth. He was actually expected to show compassion and selflessness, and in the process, help those who suffer, before he can earn back his powers. When he showed selflessness in helping his human friends, he eventually regained his powers. He then had to head back to his home planet to save it from the hands of his evil brother. With his powers back, Thor successfully defeated his evil brother and peace was once again attained. In the end, the thing I like most in the movie was actually how Thor described his planet a place where magic and science are one and the same. There is some great Thor merchandise available out there, not least the vast selection of Thor t-shirts. A number of the Thor shirts include images of the iconic hammer. Naturally the majority of the Thor t-shirt designs also include the superhero himself.
