Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Transformers: Dark of the Moon brings back Optimus Prime and the rest of his Autobots team for the third part of Michael Bay's big robot battle extravaganza. A secret spaceship hidden deep inside the Moon holds secrets from Cybertron's past that threaten's the Earth's very existence. The villanous Decepticons race to the moon to uncover the ship's secrets for themselves.
Joining Autobot leader Optimus Prime are stalwarts Ironhide, Ratchet, and Bumblebee. Silverbolt, Sideswipe, and Mirage make their first major appearance in the franchise. The mysterious warrior Sentinel Prime, Optimus' predecessor, also makes an appearance, though his true intentions are unknown. Many of these Autobots will no doubt end up on shirts with Transformers on them put on sale along side the movie.
The Autobots will be aided by Sam Witwicky, played once again by series regular Shia LaBeouf. Megan Fox is gone, replaced by model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who plays Sam's new love interest Carly Miller. Returning actors include John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson.
The theme song of the movie will be Linkin Park's track Iridescent. The songs What I've Done, and New Divide from the same band were also the theme songs from the previous instalments. American rock band Paramore will also contribute to the movie's soundtrack.
Hasbro's Transformers toy line in the 1980s and the subsequent television series and animated movie inspired the Dreamworks series. The Transformers movie franchise has grossed over $1.5 billion all over the world, and that success has transferred to the Hasbro toy line as well. New toys based on the updated robot models have been selling well, and likewise for the video game adaptations released concurrently with the movies. Sales of Transformers t-shirts have also sky rocketed thanks to the success of the movies..
The appeal of the movies so far is certainly not limited to kids, Transformers shirts can be seen being worn by kids and adults alike. Director Michael Bay has said that Dark of the Moon will be his last with franchise, but the series is still expected to continue with or without his involvement. Explosions, explosions, and more explosions are the trademark of director Michael Bay, as seen in his other works Armageddon, Bad Boys, and The Rock.
