The First Avenger - Captain America
The upcoming release of Captain America: The First Avenger is generating plenty of hype for the already-anointed blockbuster The Avengers. Chris Evans plays Steve Rogers, a sickly teenager who volunteers to take an experimental Super Soldier serum that eventually turns him into the titular character.
Captain America's first comic book appearance occurred in the same time period as World War II, which helped drive sales for the patriotic hero. His main villain, the Red Skull, was a Nazi conspirator who had plans of controlling the world. The Red Skull oftens appears on Captain America shirts with the superhero.
Captain America differs from other heroes in that he does not have powers and instead relies on his heightened physical abilities, and tactical acumen. He is equipped with a vibranium shield painted in the American flag's colors and it is regarded as a symbol of the character, so much so that it features on many Captain America t-shirts. Captain America's defining characteristic is his leadership. The words "Avengers Assemble!" are often uttered by him during Avengers missions.
The Avengers are a superhero team composed of Marvel's mightiest heroes. The primary characters are Captain American, Thor, and Iron Man. The upcoming film will also include Hawkeye, the Black Widow, and The Hulk.
The film division of Marvel has long imagined a shared universe for all of its superhero characters. The studio has already released highly successful films such as Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and most recently, Thor. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel hopes to introduce viewers to the Avengers' charismatic leader while serving as a launching point for The Avengers, set for release in 2012. Alongside this expect to see a huge increase in merchandising efforts including t shirts depicting Captain America.
Other characters in the Avenger movie are Iron Man (Robert Downey), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo, and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) are also included. The film will be directed by film director and comic book writer Joss Whedon.
